Royal Canin, owned by Mars, takes a size-first approach: instead of flavor variety, the eleven foods featured here are split by dog size (Small, Medium, Large, Giant) and life stage (Puppy, Adult, 8+ and Aging formulas). Prices range from $2.75 per pound for Large and Medium Adult up to $5.08 for Small Adult 8+.

Note the pattern: small-breed formulas cost more per pound, but small dogs eat little, so the daily cost gap is narrower than the shelf price suggests. Large breed owners face the opposite trade. Our fresh vs kibble cost guide walks through the same per-day logic across food types.

The calculator at the top of this page computes daily portions and cost for each Royal Canin food, personalized to your dog's breed, weight, age, and activity.

About Royal Canin

Royal Canin was founded in 1968 by French veterinarian Jean Cathary, who began making dog food in his garage in southern France and registered the Royal Canin trademark the same year. The company grew into one of the largest pet food makers in the world and has been owned by Mars, Incorporated since 2002. Its global headquarters remain in Aimargues, France.

Products sold in the United States are manufactured in company-owned plants in Missouri and South Dakota, as well as in Canada. The catalog is unusually segmented: breed-specific formulas (Labrador Retriever, French Bulldog, and dozens more), size-based lines from X-Small to Giant, age-specific recipes, and a separate veterinary diet range sold through clinics.

In its marketing, the brand emphasizes what it calls health nutrition: formulas tailored to a pet's breed, size, age, and lifestyle, developed through scientific research and observation. Because kibble size and calorie density vary a lot across this catalog, portion cost is best checked per formula with the calculator above.
