Wellness, from the Wellness Pet Company, splits its dry food range into two tiers, and both appear in the eight foods featured on this page. Complete Health recipes, from $1.97 to $2.33 per pound, carry moderate protein around 24 to 29 percent. CORE recipes cost more, from $3.08 per pound, and push protein to 34 percent.

That tier gap is a clean example of the per-day math: CORE's higher calorie density means smaller portions, which absorbs part of its price premium, though usually not all of it. The fresh vs kibble cost guide applies the same reasoning across food categories.

Use the calculator above to compute daily portions and cost for each Wellness food, personalized to your dog's breed, weight, age, and activity.

About Wellness

The Wellness brand launched in 1997, but its roots go back to 1926, when Old Mother Hubbard began baking dog biscuits in Gloucester, Massachusetts. In the 1990s the Old Mother Hubbard team developed the Wellness line of dog food, with cat recipes following in 2000. The parent company operated as WellPet from 2008 until 2021, when it was renamed Wellness Pet Company. It has been owned by private equity firm Clearlake Capital since late 2020 and is headquartered in the Boston area of Massachusetts.

The dog food range is organized into several lines: Complete Health as the core range, CORE for higher-protein recipes, and Simple for limited ingredient diets, alongside wet food and treats sold under the same brand.

In its marketing, the company emphasizes natural ingredients with no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, and describes its recipes as crafted in the USA using globally sourced ingredients. Prices vary noticeably between the lines, so it is worth running the specific formula you are considering through the calculator above.
