Rachael Ray Nutrish is a grocery-store brand at the budget end of the market. The seven dry foods featured here run from $1.37 to $1.86 per pound, and small bags start around $8, which makes it one of the cheaper lineups on this site to trial. The range covers beef, chicken, and salmon recipes with brown rice, two grain-free sweet potato formulas, a 30 percent protein High Protein recipe, and puppy and large breed options.

Protein spans 23 to 30 percent across those recipes, so portion sizes for the same dog differ from bag to bag even at similar shelf prices.

To see what that means for your dog, use the calculator above: daily portions and cost for each Nutrish food, based on breed, weight, age, and activity.

About Rachael Ray Nutrish

Rachael Ray Nutrish launched in 2008 as a partnership between TV cook Rachael Ray and Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, a family-run pet food maker in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The brand was built around simple recipes inspired by Ray's home cooking, with real meat listed as the first ingredient.

Ownership has changed twice since then. The J.M. Smucker Co. acquired Ainsworth in 2018, then sold Nutrish along with several other pet food brands to Post Holdings in April 2023 in a 1.2 billion dollar deal. Today Nutrish is made by Post Consumer Brands, headquartered in Lakeville, Minnesota. The 2023 sale included manufacturing facilities in Bloomsburg and Meadville, Pennsylvania, and Lawrence, Kansas.

The lineup covers dry and wet dog food plus treats, generally positioned at supermarket price points. The brand states that a portion of proceeds is donated to The Rachael Ray Foundation, which funds animal welfare organizations; Post has continued that arrangement since the acquisition.
