Merrick started as a Texas pet food company and is now owned by Nestle Purina, but keeps its own recipes and premium positioning. This page features six of its dry foods across three lines: Healthy Grains, Limited Ingredient for dogs that do better on fewer components, and a Grain Free large breed chicken recipe. Prices range from $2.70 to $4.33 per pound.
The Limited Ingredient recipes sit at 21 percent protein while the Grain Free chicken reaches 30 percent, a spread wide enough to change portion sizes meaningfully. What a given dog actually needs per day is covered in the how much to feed guide.

About Merrick
Merrick Pet Care started in 1988 in Hereford, Texas, where founder Garth Merrick began cooking food for his own dog, Gracie, and turned those recipes into a commercial pet food business. The company grew from a family operation into a national brand, passed through private equity ownership in 2010, and was acquired by Nestle Purina PetCare in 2015. It continues to operate as a distinct brand within the Purina portfolio.
Merrick is based in Texas and cooks its recipes in its own kitchen in Hereford, the same town where the brand began. Its dog food range includes grain-free recipes, Healthy Grains recipes, the Backcountry line with freeze-dried raw pieces, Lil' Plates for small breeds, and limited ingredient diets, across both dry and wet formats.
In its marketing, the brand emphasizes real deboned meat as the first ingredient, whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, and cooking in its own Texas facility. How those recipes translate into cost per day depends on your dog's weight and the calorie density of each formula, which is what the calculator on this page is for.
